Shiva Frame

The Shiva frame, depicting Lord Shiva in serene meditation in the mountains, is a 3-D light box that honours the divine power and spiritual symbolism of Lord Shiva, also referred to as Mahadeva, the God of Destruction, the cosmic dancer, and the Adiyogi; the patron of yoga, meditation and arts.

The paper cut-outs in this frame depict various details of Lord Shiva in a seated lotus position in deep meditation under the stars and moonlight, surrounded by Mount Kailash, his celestial abode. He is adorned with sacred rudraksha beads around his neck, wrists, and arms which representing purity, and the third eye on his forehead symbolises alertness, knowledge, and wisdom, as well as the destruction of evil and ignorance. The crescent moon in his thick matted hair or jata represents time, while the snake around his neck symbolises ego, which once mastered can be worn as an ornament. Besides Lord Shiva to his right stands a trishul with a damaru. The trisul represents the 3 states of creation, preservation and destruction, while the damaru is said to produce the spiritual sounds that created the entire universe. To his left sits a lingam which represents Shiva’s formless and infinite nature, as well as the union of male and female energies.

The frame is made with 5 layers of craft paper cut-outs that are layered to create a 3-D depiction of Lord Shiva. It also includes ice blue fairy lights which peek through the paper layers to create a magical contrast of lights and shadows that highlight the delicate details of the design. The layers are placed within a white box frame with a clear acrylic top.
