Krishna Frame
The Krishna 3-D light box frame depicts Krishna in all his glory, a supreme deity in his own right, who is widely worshiped as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Krishna itself means “black”, “dark as a cloud” or “blue”, owing to his blue or black skin tone. He is also referred to as Govinda – chief herdsman, Mohan – the enchanter, Keev – prankster, or Gopala – protector of the cows/soul, reflecting his many associations and attributes. He is celebrated as the deity of compassion and love and praised for his ability to be playful and loving, while also a valiant warrior and wise teacher.
Krishna is often depicted playing a flute while adorned with peacock feathers or surrounded by peacocks because he often played his flute in the forests of Vrindavan, his birthplace. The enchanting melodies would mesmerize the peacocks causing them to dance with pure joy. Moved by this the peacock king in turn offered Krishna his most treasured peacock feathers as a symbol of gratitude for the bliss of this divine encounter and humbly requested that he adorn his crown with them, adding to Krishna’s beauty. The peacock feather has since come to represent beauty, divine wisdom, and embodies the universes diverse colours within Krishna.
One cannot talk about Krishna without mentioning Radha, the pair are synonymous for representing the perfect couple and the purest and most eternal love between the soul and the divine that all should strive towards. Even though they are two distinct beings, they are simultaneously one, representing an unbreakable bond of devotion. Krishna is the god of love and protection and Radha is the goddess of love, compassion and devotion, as is considered the supreme feminine energy of Krishna. Their relationship represents the souls yearning for a spiritual union with God, a concept that transcends earthly love and is deeply embedded in Hindu philosophy and art, and highlights a love that is profound, spiritual, transcending, and focuses on union rather than possession.
The paper cut-outs in this frame depict these various traits of Lord Krishna, playing a melodic tune on his flute with a peacock feather in his crown, surrounded by a serene lake of lotus flowers representing his calm and serene demeanor. In the foreground, amongst the trees sits a majestic peacock, perched on a tree branch, mesmerized by his flute music. To Lord Krishna’s right Radha dances under tree canopies by moonlight, also serenaded by Lord Krishna’s music, depicting her devotion and love to him.
The frame is made with 5 layers of craft paper cut-outs that are layered to create a 3-D depiction of Krishna. It also includes blue fairy lights which peek through the paper layers to create a magical contrast of lights and shadows that highlight the delicate details of the design. The layers are placed within a white box frame with a clear acrylic top.
