Hanuman Frame
The Hanuman 3-D light box frame depicts Hanuman as the ideal devotee, kneeling in complete devotion, with unwavering faith, selflessness and humility. Hanuman, also known as the monkey-faced deity, an attribute he acquired as a young boy when he tried to grab the Sun out of the sky and was struck on the chin with a thunderbolt by the king of Gods Indra. The thunderbolt left his jaw disfigured, hence his name Hanuman, and resulting in his uniquely depicted jaw line, closely resembling that of a monkey. He is also affectionately referred to as Bajrangabali, which means “the one whose limbs are as hard as a thunderbolt/diamond”, owing to his superhuman strength and power, and his diamond like physique, qualities he was blessed with as a result of being struck by Indra’s thunderbolt, making Hanuman as strong as Indra himself.
Hanuman embodies bhakti (devotion), strength, and a disciplined mind that seeks to overcome challenges and live a life of virtue and service. He is best known as the faithful companion of Lord Ram. Hanuman is also the patron deity of martial arts and is often portrayed as a superhero amongst the Hindu deities, with heroic strength, courage, bravery, and commitment to righteous causes. However, Hanuman also has a soft and humble side, as he is also the patron deity of meditation and scholarly pursuits, owing to his loving and emotional devotion. He is revered as an exemplar of self-control, faith and commitment to a cause. His duality is the personification of Hindu Bhakti-Shakti worship.
The paper cut-outs in this frame depict various traits of Hanuman, humbly kneeling in complete devotion and service to humanity and Lord Ram. At his feet lies parshad or blessed sweet treats that are offered to the deity, as well as agarbatti or incense sticks and a prayer lamp, and above him swing temple bells. Behind him stands Rama or Lord Ram atop a mountain, wielding a bow and arrows. To Hanuman’s left is the Ram mandir of Ayodhya, Lord Rams birthplace. The last layer depicts a spiral mandala of Lord Rams name in Sanskrit text. Each of these layers emphasize Hanumans complete devotion to Rama, as well as his pivotal role in the epic Ramayana.
The frame is made with 5 layers of craft paper cut-outs that are layered to create a 3-D depiction of Hanuman. It also includes amber fairy lights which peek through the paper layers to create a magical contrast of lights and shadows that highlight the delicate details of the design. The layers are placed within a white box frame with a clear acrylic top.
