Awakened One

Buddha is Sanskrit for “Awakened One”. Buddha was a teacher, philosopher, and leader, but at his core Buddha sought to understand suffering. He eventually achieved enlightenment after meditating under a tree for several months, and from there he sought to teach people about the nature of suffering and the path to liberation.
